Now that the disaster is over, there are a few steps that must be taken in returning the area to it's original state.
- Use caution when entering a building damaged by strong winds and snow. Check for broken glass
- Use flashlights, NOT candles or open-flame sources, to check areas containing natural gas, propane, or gasoline
- Immediately report downed power lines or broken gas lines
- Check that no physical damage has occurred and that the water pipes are functioning
- Wait for streets and roads to be opened up before driving
- Beware of overexertion and exhaustion. Shoveling in extreme cold can cause heart attacks. Wait for the weather to warm up a little before shoveling, and do not do too much too soon. If warm enough, clear all snow out of the way
